I talked with Doug on Friday morning. This was one of several conversations that I have had with him over the last 3 years. I had just received a wonderful recommendation from Governor Jim Doyle's office, and results from other recent competitions that I shared with Doug. He very graciously accepted my invitation to receive an application to represent the State of Wisconsin at the 2007 National Memorial Day Parade in Washington D.C. He was always willing to chat with me about the program and how proud he was of the students. I was absolutely shocked and saddened to hear of the tragedy that occurred this weekend when the band was returning from another great competition. Please convey our condolences to the entire community. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been touched by these events and know that we are praying for a steadfast healing for all who are injured and grieve.
