Tribute of Merrill bandMy father-in-law sent me a clipping from the Merrill Foto News, dated November 2. The title of the article is "Marching Jays Honor Falls Comrades" and the story reads in part: The Merrill Marching Jays paid its respects to the tragedy-stricken Chippewa Falls band program with a special performance at halftime of Thursday's football game.............. In honor of the Chippewa Falls Marching Cardinals, the Marching Jays chose a chorale to perform at the football game. The band marched onto the field in the familiar "M" formation, which morphed into a "C-F" as they began to play. Band members wore red, the school colors of Chippewa Falls High School, with black arm bands. Five students carried candles to signify the lives lost in the accident."The article also mentions that the Merrill band instructor had known G from the 1970's when they were with the Wausa Story Drum & Bugle Corps, that the two bands knew each other well from competition, and that the Merrill students are creating a large banner of support to send to our students. The editor separately has e-mailed me two photographs that accompanied the article. I'll try to get them to Tom to see if he can post them on the CFMA website. -- Jon Tulman (tulmanje@charter.net) |
