On the weekend of October 20-22, 2006, the Chi-Hi Marching
Cardinals traveled to the southeast corner of Wisconsin for the state
marching band competition. The Cards have a tradition of traveling down
there Friday night and sleeping on a gym floor, this time at a middle
school in Sun Prairie. This allows some great rehearsal and bonding time
Saturday before the competition. Because the show gets over so late, and
the memories of
last year's crash on this same
weekend, this year the band also stayed over Saturday night.
Incessant rain forced the competition to a smaller venue indoors, so only a few lucky people got to see the Cards earn their best score of the year, 85.35. That was 9 points more than the next band down, but only 0.1 points from the next one up. And they missed THIRD PLACE in AAAA by only 0.8 points! It was also a great weekend off the field, especially hearing the full band play in the middle school cafeteria during rehearsals. That was AWESOME!! Anyway, here are some photos I took with my FZ30. I tried to focus more on what goes on behind the scenes with an operation this big. There are a lot of dedicated people that make this all work. (Read a newspaper column about this trip.)
